GREENVILLE -- Investigators say a man sought in connection with a teenager's death a week ago is in custody.
Ernest Whitaker, 13, was in a car with his family when they pulled into a Furman Hall Road apartment complex just before 9 p.m. on March 18.Deputies said that as the boy's mother stopped the car, three men approached and demanded money, jewelry and the car.When she tried to drive away, one of the men fired into the car, hitting Whitaker once in the chest.Whitaker was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died a short time later.At the time, investigators said they were looking for John Lewis Mills, 33, and two unidentified men in connection with the shooting.Friday morning, deputies said Mills was arrested at a motel in Dekalb County, Ga., where he is awaiting extradition.Investigators said they are still trying to determine who the other two men are and where they can be found.
